Leeds-Liverpool Canal Walk (Riddlesden-Silsden)

Day 9 – Riddlesden to Silsden

Now that I’ve caught up with myself a little, I can hopefully remember more of each walk.  Monkey & I got the train to Keighley then a bus out to Riddlesden.

This was a nice walk despite some of the milestones being absent.  The wind bothered Monkey a bit but with his hood up he seemed happy enough.

After the canal walk we consulted the map I’d sensibly printed off, as we’d a major A-road to cross.  The first footpath we tried took us up back on to the road, with no clear place to cross.  Not good to attempt with a 4-year old then.  The second footpath was in the opposite direction.  This looked less well used but it was marked on the map & with signs so off we went, onto some farmland and almost immediately into a flooded area of grass.  Hmmm… Ok, lets go around that bit.  We tramped along wandering through various fields, trying to keep to the edges as much as possible & trying to stick to where the (intermittent) signs were.  Poor Monkey had shorts on so needed carrying over thistley areas.

We gave up eventually & headed back to the road up to the canal, where we got the bus to the station.  It was a bit of an anti-climax but at least we didn’t get squished trying to cross the road.  All told we did about 9.7km – hurrah for Monkey!
